Matthew Crawley, Jewel, 2008

Explain Away:
Crawley in his lecture Bad Technician 2013, recalls going in to work Christmas 2008. He places his right hand on his desk and immediately picks up an unknown material on the ball of his thumb. Crawley thought it was snot, gob, spit, dribble, ectoplasm or worse and possibly delivered courtesy of (the late) Ron the cleaner but Crawley now accepts this as conjecture. In essence the artist considered the stringer a rarity like a gemstone and for a few moments played with it in the light.
