Explain Away:
During the 2007 global financial crisis, Crawley was asked to contribute to an exhibition at Bloomberg Space, London. Samaritans Collaboration is made from printing ink and aluminium and is a copy of an existing sign the artist happened upon on a footbridge in Southampton. The copy ultimately does something different to the intention of the original. It does not get replaced or the telephone number updated and neither does it not get stored away. It’s inherent ‘help’ element over time is rendered redundant. Crawley’s ‘collaboration’ is a sign of melancholy and pathos, without end.
